Analysis of Flavonols Extracted from Leaves of Various Grapevine Cultivars by HPLC

Abstract
Flavonol profiles were analyzed and compared with leaves of four cultivars of grapevines, ¡®Muscat Bailey A¡¯, ¡®Neo Muscat¡¯, ¡®Rizamat¡¯, and ¡®Himrod¡¯ by TLC, HPLC, and UV spectrum. Flavonols detected in four cultivars were glycosylated derivatives of the following flavonols; kaempferol, quercetin, and isorhamnetin. Among them, quercetin 3-O-glucoside 7-O-glucuronide was a common flavonol in the four cultivars and identified as a major compound. The others were expressed differently by specific cultivars. These differences imply that composition of flavonols is unique to cultivars of grapevines; therefore, the profiles of flavonols can be used as a chemo-taxonomical model to classify the grapevine cultivars.
